Looking back at the winter season, the success rate of our local high school teams and individuals is nearly unmatched. In each of our seven sports, our athletes recorded at least one state championship, in some cases a New England championship.

We can’t wait to share their accomplishments with you as we unveil The Day’s Winter All-Area Teams beginning Monday.

In each of our seven sports, we selected a player of the year, as well as an all-star team, as chosen by our sports staff. Portraits of each of the athletes were taken by photographer Dana Jensen.

The schedule of publication is as follows: Monday, wrestling; Tuesday, gymnastics; Wednesday, swimming & diving; Thursday, girls’ indoor track & field; Friday, boys’ indoor track and field; Saturday, April 29, girls’ basketball; and Sunday, April 30, boys’ basketball.

The spring season has already begun but we hope you will enjoy these recollections of the winter along with us.
