    Local roundup: Coast Guard softball sweeps Trinity

    Hartford — The Coast Guard Academy softball team improved to 26-8 overall with a doubleheader sweep of Trinity College on Wednesday.

    The win total is the most for the program since 2012.

    in the first game, Maura Murphy had two hits and three RBI while Katie Becker had two doubles and Isabella Shroyer contributed two hits and two RBI in a 9-0 win in five innings. Dana Walker (13-4) pitched the shutout.

    Selena Serna’s RBI double plated the winning run in the top of the eighth inning in a 5-4 victory in game two. Serna finished with two doubles and two RBI while Lillia Farlow had two doubles and an RBI and Bridget Bartz added a double and two RBI.

    H.S. softball

    • Teagan Lajoie had a single, two doubles and two RBI to power Ledyard past Bacon Academy, 7-2, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game. Caylee Cliett had two hits and three RBI and Kyra Manning was the winning pitcher for the Colonels (4-5, 2-2). Jazlyn Small-Yu had a two-run triple for the Bobcats (2-7, 1-3).

    • Yomairis Santiago had two hits and Italia Salls added a hit and two RBI for New London in a 21-3 loss to Killingly in a ECC Division II game that went five innings. The Whalers dropped to 2-6, 0-4.

    • Erin Durant went 4 for 4 with three RBI in Old Lyme’s 12-0 win over East Hampton in the Shoreline Conference. Olivia Kelly had two hits and four RBI and Jamie Bucior had a single, home run and an RBI for the Wildcats (8-1, 6-1). Winning pitcher Emma Bayor allowed one hit, striking out 14 and walking one.

    • Stonington scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and went on to beat Griswold, 12-3, in ECC Division III. Ari Scavello led the way with three hits and three RBI while Melanie Verbridge had two hits and two RBI and Madi Allard added two hits for the Bears (8-3, 4-0). The Wolverines are 4-6, 2-2

    • St. Bernard scored 13 runs in the fourth inning in a 18-3 win over Wheeler in an ECC Division IV game that went five innings. The Saints improved to 6-3, 3-1. Makayla Delzer had two hits for the Lions (4-5, 2-2).

    • A’zarria Darden went the distance to earn the win, leading Grasso Tech over Vinal Tech, 30-17, in a five inning game. Camryn Hobbs and Nutaunis Brown scored multiple runs for the Eagles (2-5).

    Men’s lacrosse

    • Connecticut College clinched a berth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament with a 14-10 win over Wesleyan in the regular season finale. Liam Horkan led the Camels (6-7, 4-6) with three goals while Patrick Atkins had two goals and an assist and JJ Ford scored twice. Aidan McAvoy added a goal and three assists.

    Boys’ lacrosse

    • Macklin Cushman scored two goals and Mason Bussman added one in Old Lyme’s 13-3 loss to Old Saybrook in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 0-8, 0-6.

    • Waterford scored five goals in the fourth quarter to overtake Fitch 12-11 in an ECC Division I game on Tuesday night. Jackson Huta had four goals and two assists to lead the Lancers (5-3, 3-1) while C.J. Landry had three goals and two assists and Tarance Silva two goals. Evan Salen had three goals and an assist to lead Fitch (3-4, 1-3) while Tate Gordon and Roman Rich each had two goals and one assist, Morgan Reissnor scored twice.

    • Sawyer Tighe had two goals and two assists to lift East Lyme to an 11-9 win over Bacon Academy on Tuesday night. Drew Sager added a goal and three assists for the Vikings (5-4) while Jack Keating, Gavin White and Jack Campbell each scored twice. Ethan LoVetere had three goals and two assists for the Bobcats (6-3) and Jack Holmes had two goals and one assist.

    • Conor Gaughan had four goals and an assist to highlight Norwich Free Academy’s 15-7 win over Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division I match on Tuesday night. Logan Jenkins added two goals and three assist for the Wildcats (4-2, 2-2) while Tommy Brunelli had three goals and an assist, Anthony Ballestrini scored three goals and Conor Dempsey scored twice.

    • Montville picked up its first win of the season, beating Ledyard/Griswold 11-2 in an ECC Division II game on Tuesday night. Jayden Sherwood and Christopher Baukus had four goals each, Darien Sherwood made 11 saves and Gavin Delucia, Calen Vanvoorhies and Luis Salas Montalvo scored goals for Montville (1-4, 1-3). Dylan Freyer and Eric Williams scored for Ledyard/Griswold (0-9, 0-4).

    Girls’ lacrosse

    • Lucy Fader finished with six goals and two assists to lead Williams School to a 20-5 victory over Forman School. Amaya Butler had three goals and three assists while Ally Iacobellis had four goals and one assist and Skylar Frost added four goals for the Blues (3-4).

    College baseball

    • Mitchell College scored three runs in the ninth inning but its comeback attempt fell short in an 8-4 loss to Stonehill College (9-26), a first-year Division I program. Angel Galindez had a two-run single and Justin Adorno finished with two of his team’s five hits. The Mariners dropped to 27-7.

    • Mike McCullagh pitched five scoreless innings for the win as Avery Point beat Holyoke CC 13-3 on Tuesday. Malcolm Mention stole three bases and Vance Ward stole two for the Pointers (23-8).

    H.S. baseball

    • Guilford scored all three runs without a hit in the fourth inning and Bryce Meder pitched a complete game in a 3-0 win over East Lyme in non-conference action. Joey Wainright, Gavin O’Brien and John Bureau had singles for the Vikings (9-2).

    • Grady Lacourciere finished with two hits and two RBI in Old Lyme’s 9-7 victory over East Hampton in the Shoreline Conference. Casey Hurtgen had two hits and an RBI and Rowen Messier had two hits for the Wildcats (8-3, 7-3).

    • Dylan Meyer had two hits and two RBI and also pitched three strong innings in relief, as Fitch defeated Daniel Hand, 8-5. The Falcons are 4-5 overall.

    • David Duguay went the distance, allowing four hits while walking one and striking out two, to carry Stonington past Putnam, 4-0. Jace Wolfradt, Alex Starr and Nick Cannella chipped in two hits apiece and Finn Eck had a hit and two RBI for the Bears (5-6).

    • Derek Kennedy pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Grasso Tech past Vinal Tech, 13-0, in a game that went five innings. Reis Whitfield chipped in three hits while Reynaldo Hidalgo and Mychal Dole each had two hits for the Eagles (6-5), who scored 10 runs in the third inning to take charge.

    On Tuesday, Grasso Tech beat Goodwin Tech 13-10. Jesus Sanchez hit a three-run homer for the Eagles and Hidalgo, Gabriel Castillo and Jaivon Velez had two hits each.

    Boys’ golf

    • Gavin Arruda earned medalist honors with a 42, leading Wheeler to a 6-1 win over Tourtellotte in an ECC Division IV match at Raceway Golf Course. Cameron Conway also won his match, shooting a 44. The Lions improved to 3-1, 2-0.

    Jacob Beardsley fired a 43 to clinch medalist honors in Waterford’s 5.5-1.5 win over Old Lyme at Great Neck Country Club. Vincent Antonelli won his match with a 46 for the Lancers (1-4). Manu Geronimo (55) won at No. 3 for the Wildcats (0-4).

    • Norwich Free Academy improved to 4-1 with a 5.5-1.5 win over Bacon Academy at Norwich Golf Course. Max Weston was the medalist with a 40 and John Howe won his match with a 42 for the Wildcats. John Ceruti (44) had the only win for the Bobcats (1-3).
