    H.S. baseball: East Lyme beats Fitch to win ECC Div. I crown

    East Lyme — East Lyme won the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball title on Thursday with a 10-2 victory over Fitch.

    The Vikings (14-2, 4-0) erupted for six runs in the second inning to break the game open as pitcher Alex Dreyfus went the distance to earn the win by scattering five hits and walking only one batter.

    Dreyfus also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs and one RBI while Joey Wainwright had two hits and drove in three runs, Owen Elmer had two hits and two RBI and Blake Biggs had two hits, one run and one RBI.

    Ian Anderson had an RBI double for the Falcons (8-8, 2-2).

    In other games:

    • Matt Shampine allowed only one earned run over six innings and struck out five as Waterford defeated Norwich Free Academy 8-4 in an ECC Division I game. Matt Ory went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Lancers (9-8, 1-3), while Harley Mish, Brian Ingraham, Lucas Saunders, Anthony Jessuck and Matt Reilly added two hits apiece. Ethan Heinsz went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Wildcats (8-8, 1-3) and Joel Tiburcio had two hits and scored a run.

    • Kayden Murphy was the complete-game winner as Woodstock Academy clinched the ECC Division II title with an 8-2 win over New London. Darius Aquino and Isaiah Plaza had two hits apiece and Derrel Mitchell had an RBI single for the Whalers (5-`0, 3-2).

    • Ryley Beyler had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as Montville defeated Killingly 11-5 in an ECC Division III game at Dodd Stadium. Hunter Sylvia added an RBI single for Montville (5-11, 1-4).

    • Alex Ortiz allowed just one hit while striking out seven as Lyman Memorial defeated Putnam 1-0 in an five inning ECC Division IV game. Nate Cone had three hits and scored three runs for the Bulldogs (9-6, 3-2) and Jacob Citro added a bases-clearing triple.

    • Stonington held off Plainfield in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 ECC Division III win. The Panthers scored four runs before Finn Eck came out of the bullpen to record the final two outs and earn the save. No. 9 hitter Grayson Dull went 3-for-4 for the Bears (10-7, 4-2) while Aaron LoPresto and Jace Wolfradt each had two hits and two RBI.

    • Stonington scored seven runs in the fifth inning to wipe out a 3-1 deficit, and the Bears went on to rout Wheeler 11-3 on Wednesday night. Jace Wolfradt was had two hits, two runs and two RBI for Stonington (9-7) while Finn Eck was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Alex Starr had two hits. Kyle Kessler and James Main hit solo homers for the Lions (11-3) with Kessler and Sean Bergel each finishing with three hits apiece.

    • Grasso Tech remained unbeaten in CTC Charter Oak play with a 13-4 win over Vinal Tech on Wednesday. Jaivon Velez had a double and a triple and Derek Kennedy doubled and stole three bases for the Eagles (10-6, 9-0). PJ Evans picked up the win, striking out seven in six innings.
