    H.S. softball: Stonington clinches ECC Div. III title

    Stonington — Ari Scavello homered and drove in three runs as Stonington clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III softball championship with a 20-15 win over Griswold on Wednesday.

    Scavello finished 3-for-4 and also scored two runs for the Bears (13-5, 7-1).

    Madi Allard added two hits and three run for Stonington while Melanie Verbridge had two and scored twice and Maggie Thomas had two hits, two runs and an RBI.

    Abby Matheson was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI for the Wolverines (6-12, 4-4) and Kierra Neilson had a single, double and scored two runs.

    In other games:

    • Aubrey Martin went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored as Norwich Free Academy handed No. 10 Coventry its first loss, 11-6, in a nonleague game. Jillian Dyke added two hits with two runs and two RBI while Leah Manke had two hits and three RBI for the Wildcats (14-5). Coventry is 18-1.

    • Grace Bush went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs as Ledyard defeated Bacon Academy 15-9 in an ECC Division II game. Caylee Cliett added two hits and three RBI for the Colonels (10-8, 6-2) and Madi Miller was the winning pitcher. Bacon is 3-12, 2-6.

    • Killingly defeated New London 17-5 in a six inning ECC Division II game. The Whalers (5-13, 0-8) scored all five runs in the second hitting as Gabriella Santiago Cruze singled home two runs, Raine Boozer had an RBI single and Yomairis Santiago had a hit and scored a run.

    • Emma Bayor had a big day at the plate and on the mound as Old Lyme finished Shoreline Conference play with a 9-1 win over Morgan. The junior pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, three RBI and two runs. Jame Bucior added two doubles, two RBI and two runs for the Wildcats (17-2, 14-2) while Sybil Neary had a single, triple and run.
