    H.S. softball: Norwich Tech advances to CTC title game

    Norwich — Caity Flynn pitched a three-hitter and Morgan Cook drove in three runs as No. 2 Norwich Tech beat No. 3 Wilcox Tech 10-3 in the semifinals of the Connecticut Technical Conference tournament on Wednesday.

    The Warriors (19-3) will face No. 1 O’Brien Tech in the CTC final on Friday at Albertus Magnus in New Haven at 3:45 p.m. O’Brien beat No. 5 Kaynor Tech 12-0.

    Flynn struck out nine and also had two hits and scored twice. Cook was 3-for-4 and also scored twice. Nyomi Barboza had two hits and Norwich Tech outfielder Evelyn Brimmer turned in a strong defensive play.

    In other games:

    • No. 1 Waterford scored four runs in the bottom of the first and went on to beat No. 4 Woodstock 11-1 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I tournament semifinals at Griswold. The Lancers (14-7) play the winner of Thursday’s semi between Fitch and NFA for the title Thursday at 7 p.m. The Fitch-NFA game was moved to Thursday at 1 p.m., due to the chance of rain.

    Brielle Kenney pitched a five-hitter for the win, striking out five with two walks. Paige Jessuck had three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Ava Majeski (three RBI) and Melanie Martin (two RBI) had two hits each and Grace Muti doubled and drove in two runs for the Lancers.

    • No. 2 Stonington scored five runs in the sixth inning and went on to beat No. 3 St. Bernard 6-2 in the ECC Division II tournament semifinals. The Bears (16-5) play No. 1 Lyman Memorial in the final on Thursday at Griswold at 4:30 p.m.

    Melanie Verbridge and Janiya Aleman each had a two-run single in the sixth. Cami Brown and Ari Scavello had two hits each for Stonington, Kelsea Anderson had a triple and Brown had a double. Aubree Nygaard had tow hitgs for the Saints (12-9).

    • Old Lyme’s Emma Bayor was selected as the Shoreline Conference Pitcher of the Year. Ava Roth and Bayor were named to the Shoreline Conference all-star team as first-team selections. Old Lyme’s Jenna Schauder made the second team and teammate Jamie Bucior received honorable mention.
