    Local roundup: Semifinal field set for 97th Norwich Invite

    Norwich — Holden Sullivan, less than two months removed from winning a high school state championship, is one of four semifinalists in the championships flight of the 97th Norwich Invitational golf tournament.

    Sullivan, who won medalist honors with a 72 and helped RHAM to a third-place finish in the CIAC Division II tournament on June 6, edged East Lyme’s new athletic director, Kevin Marcoux, on the second playoff hole to win their quarterfinal match on Saturday afternoon at the Norwich Golf Course.

    Sullivan, whose father Bill Sullivan will play in the semifinals of the sixth flight and whose mother is Connecticut Sun president Jennifer Rizzotti, will take on former champion Josh Cameron in Sunday’s semifinals at 8:54 a.m. Cameron beat Sean Vigue 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals.

    The other semifinal will pit another former champion, Chris DeLucia, against Steve Chevalier at 9:01 a.m. DeLucia eliminated Gabe Van Ness 3 and 2 in the quarters after knocking off defending champion Nick Harrington 2 and 1 in the first round. Chevalier, meanwhile, beat Austin Cilley, last year’s runner-up, 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals.

    The championship match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:15 p.m.

    Following is a list of semifinal matchups in the other flights:

    Flight 1: Richard Kutia vs. Aidan Stuart, Todd LaVoie vs. Cody Olson.

    Flight 2: Mike McMorrow vs. Miles Joyner, Mike Thompson vs. Frankie Lee.

    Flight 3: Ryan Black vs. Chris Maynard, Adam Vaccari vs. Tony Susi.

    Flight 4: Brian Tingley vs. Corey Jones, Chris Szymonik vs. Cam Seiffert.

    Flight 5: James Harrington vs. Tim Griffin, J.J. Koning vs. Erick Bukowski.

    Flight 6: Bill Glenney vs. Nicholas Kinder, Bill Sullivan vs. Scott Harger.

    • The Norwich Sea Unicorns pulled to within a half-game of second-place Vermont by defeating the host Lake Monsters 3-2 in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game. Andrew Bianco (New Haven) had a triple and solo home run for Norwich (28-16) while D.J. Perron (Rhode Island) added a solo home run. Charlie Costello (Sacred Heart) retired all seven batters he faced, three by strikeout, to earn his third save. Vermont is 28-15. Both teams trail the Worcester Bravehearts (31-14), who beat New Britain 7-3.

    • The Mystic Schooners had their seven-game win streak ended with a 13-1 loss to the North Shore Navigators on Friday night in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Sam Kirkpatrick (Belmont) doubled and Jack Goodman (Pepperdine) had an RBI single in the first inning for the Schooners (19-11).
