    Local roundup: Old Lyme girls improve to 3-0 with Shoreline volleyball win over Cromwell

    Cromwell — Grace Phaneuf had 10 aces and 15 assists as Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 3-0 volleyball victory over Cromwell in the Shoreline Conference on Wednesday.

    Game scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 27-25.

    Peighton Andres added six kills for the Wildcats (3-0, 3-0).

    In other games:

    • Norwich Free Academy remained unbeaten with a 3-2 win over Bacon Academy. Game scores were 25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 15-25 and 15-11. Emily Drautt had seven blocks for the Wildcats (4-0) and Faustine Canales Arrieta added five kills and 19 assists. Kiera Stewart had four aces, 18 digs and 14 assists to lead the Bobcats (1-2) while Sammi D’Amtri had 18 digs and Meghan Walsh had eight kills.

    • Skylar Bell had 16 digs and eight aces as East Lyme spoiled Waterford’s season opener with a 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18 win over Lancers. Bella Dipe added 24 assists for the Vikings (2-1) while Abby Parulis had five aces and eight kills and Finnely Wilson had seven kills. Danica Agsalud had 14 assists, nine digs and three aces for Waterford while Jennifer Macca-Barnes added seven kills, Ava Majeski nine digs and Emerson Lane six kills.

    • Plainfield defeated New London 25-13, 25-11 and 25-19. Serenity Lancaster had six kills, four blocks and 19 digs for the Whalers (1-3) while Nyarah Dudley added four kills, one block and 21 digs, Cashel Jones had three aces, 10 service points, three assists, one kill and nine digs and Malahika Paulo had one ace and 12 digs.

    • Woodstock Academy outlasted Griswold 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19. Abby Matheson had four kills, eight digs and one ace for the Wolverines (0-2) while Kierra Neilson finished with five kills, one block and one ace, Olivia Gasparino had five kills, Bella Bruno 10 assists and four digs, and Summer McLean seven assists and one ace.

    • Montville won its home opener with a 3-0 victory over Lyman Memorial. Mackenzie Payne had 20 assists, six digs and three aces to lead the Wolves (2-1) while Liz Maffeo finished with seven kills, eight digs and three aces and Savannah Malinowsky had four kills and six aces. Erica Arpin had 26 digs for the Bulldogs (1-2) and Laurelin Boyer added seven kills.

    College volleyball

    • Connecticut College won its third straight game with a 25-13, 25-12 and 25-17 win over Saint Joseph. Riley Lord had 10 kills and five aces for the Camels (3-2) while Rae Wartelle added nine kills and Natasha Shrivastava had 24 assists.

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Stouvenly Dortelus, assisted by Yovani Sanchez Duenas, scored the game’s only goal as New London defeated Wheeler 1-0. The Whalers are now 2-0 while the Lions fall to 2-1.

    • Justyn Blanchard had three goals and one assist to lead Griswold to a 4-1 victory over Plainfield. Gennaro Iavado added a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (1-1) while Lukas Otero and Brayden Weidner each had an assist.

    • Colby Cowan scored two goals as Montville beat St. Bernard 2-1. Nolan Muncaster had an assist for the Wolves (1-0-1) and goalie Adonis Santiago made five saves. Connor McWilliams, assisted by Luke Brannegan, scored for the Saints (1-1) and goalie Tim Regan made eight saves.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Charlotte Jessuck scored four goals as Waterford beat Stonington 5-0 in its season opener on Tuesday night. Amarys Jimenez had a goal and an assist, Camryn Dickinson had two assists and Emilia Podeszwa and Adyson Wiseman had assists for the Lancers. Payton Stone made eight saves for Stonington (1-1-1).

    H.S. boys’ cross country

    • Wheeler opened its season by sweeping ECC Division IV opponents New London, Putnam and Tourtellotte by 15-50 scores on Tuesday as the other team teams couldn’t field enough runners. The Lions had the top three finishers with Jayson Krysicwicz winning in 20:57 followed by Cam Conway (20:58) and Trevor Scarchilli (20:59). The Whalers were led by Gabriel Frommer, who finished fourth in 21:33.

    H.S. girls’ cross country

    • Waterford opened its season on Tuesday by defeating Woodstock Academy 25-30 and Griswold 15-50 in an ECC Division II meet. Woodstock also beat the Wolverines 15-50. Avery Maiese was the overall winner for the Lancers, finishing in 20:01, while Madison LaForte placed fifth (22:17), Ava Lee sixth (22:46), Elle Dibuono eighth (23:16) and Adeline Steinhaus ninth (25:11). Ryley Hubert finished fourth for Griswold in 22:07.
