    H.S. roundup: East Lyme boys finish second at Bay State Invitational cross country meet

    Devens, Mass. — East Lyme High School finished second in the Varsity A boys’ race at the Bay State Invitational cross country meet Saturday.

    The Vikings finished with 68 points while Parker Charter Essential of Devens won the meet with 44 points.

    East Lyme was led by Jilali Benjdid in ninth place (16:33) while Matthew Carrier was 10th (16:42), Sam Leon 11th (16:55), Mason Hintze 19th (17.21.6) and Kai Ritz 31st (17:51).

    In the Varsity B race, Ledyard finished third with 91 points behind Boston Latin (23) and Hamilton-Wenham Regional (84). Old Lyme was 10th with 290.

    Jackson Hill led the Colonels by placing 11th (17:07) while Gabe Huff was 14th (17:20), Hayden Baber 17th (17:22), Antonio Soldato 25th (17:47) and Steven Ives 34th (18:26). Eric Dagher (42nd, 18:48) was Old Lyme’s top finisher.

    Girls’ cross country

    • East Lyme finished third in the Varsity A race at the Bay State Invitational with 91 points. Notre Dame of Hingham was first (72) followed by Winchester (81). Aranza Torres led the Vikings in seventh (20:51) while Maya D’Aquila was 11th (21:25), Rachel Quadrato 28th (22:34), Izzy Paggioli 37th (22:55) and Allison Caskey 40th (23:14). Old Lyme competed in the Varsity B race with Alexis Antonellis placing 60th in 23:43.

    Boys’ soccer

    • Madden Brown scored a pair of goals as Montville won its seventh straight game with a 2-0 victory over Fitch. Eli Klusek added an assist for the Wolves (8-1-1) while Adonis Santiago made four saves to earn the shutout. Nate Virtue made seven saves for the Falcons (1-5-2).

    • Goals by Chase Donnarummo and Sal Alessio helped Stonington defeat Bacon Academy 2-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II matchup. The Bears (5-4, 2-2) held an 8-5 edge in shots and goalie Nick Cannella made three saves for the shutout. Bacon is 3-5, 2-2.

    Girls’ soccer

    • Summer Antonio, Jessica Knapp and Emily Salek scored goals just four minutes apart late in the first half to lift East Lyme past Fitch 4-0. Lacey Lee Keramidas also scored for the Vikings (8-3-1) while Jayda Johnson made eight saves for the Falcons (0-11).

    • Victoria Sturm made four saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season as Waterford defeated Woodstock Academy 2-0. Adyson Wiseman, assisted by Eli Briggs, scored in the fifth minute for the Lancers (8-1-1) and Camryn Dickinson converted a free kick with 12 minutes left.

    • A second-half goal by Jordan Fabry proved to be the difference in Norwich Free Academy’s 2-1 win over Ledyard. Fabry’s goal gave the Wildcats (6-2-2) a 2-0 lead after Chloe Green, assisted by Hayleigh Young, scored in the first half. Cassie Rice converted a late penalty kick for the Colonels (2-7). NFA goalie Ava Boenig made nine saves and Maddie McLeod stopped eight shots for Ledyard.

    • Allysa Judd scored three goals and Madeline Archer added two to lead Lyman Memorial to a 5-0 victory over Windham. Emily McKelvey added two assists for the Bulldogs (7-2) while Haley Cardinali and Avery Volle had one assist apiece and goalie Phoebe Carpenter made five saves to earn the shutout.

    Field hockey

    • Reigning Class S champion North Branford remained unbeaten with a 6-3 win over Stonington. Keana Criscoulo had three goals and an assist for the Thunderbirds (10-0), who led 4-0 after the first period. Anna Lettiere and Nora Walsh had one goal and one assist apiece for the Bears (6-2-1) while Brianna Plew added a goal and Paige Goebel had an assist.

    • Emma Cusa’s goal was the difference in Masuk’s 1-0 victory over Fitch. Esme Carlebach had a strong game in goal for the Falcons (6-4), making 16 saves.

    Swimming

    • Elliott Singer won the 100 butterfly (1:07.37) and 200 individual medley (2:26.24) to highlight the Fitch co-op’s 102-63 ECC win over Ledyard/St. Bernard on Friday night. Sophia Pacheco (200 freestyle, 2:04.27), Audrey Schrage (100 free, 1:00.11), Mary McKenna (500 free, 6:36.91) and Laura Letellier (100 breaststroke, 1:12.22) also won individual events for the Falcons while Samantha Palmer (50 free, 32.64) and Thelma Grogan (100 backstroke, 1:22.37) won events for Ledyard.
