    Local roundup: Paulino earns boxing honor

    New London — Former state champion wrestler, Alejandro Paulino of New London, was named the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Pro Boxer of the Year and will be honored Nov. 18 in the Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun.

    Paulino, who made his professional boxing debut on May 8, 2021, has a career record of 15-0 with 13 knockouts, last winning by knockout against Julian Evaristo Aristule at Mohegan Sun Arena.

    The 5-foot-9, 25-year-old Paulino is 4-0 with four knockouts in 2023, fighting in the lightweight division. Paulino won back-to-back Class M state wrestling championships at New London in 2015-16.

    Shelly Vincent, Matt Remillard, Tarvis Simms and Tony Grano headline the 2023 Hall of Fame class, along with journalist Mark Allen Baker and promoter Art Pellulo.

    Vincent, originally from New London, made Providence her boxing base for what turned out to be a spectacular 27-2 pro career in the women’s featherweight division. She began her pro career in 2011.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Skylar Frost scored three goals and the Williams School topped Harvey School 5-1 in Katonah, New York. Frost scored in the first half assisted by Marlee Anselmi. In the second half, Frost scored twice more to complete the hat trick, Anselmi scored and senior captain Katelyn Harvey converted a penalty to score her first career goal. Williams is 9-3-1.

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Rocky Hill (R.I.) topped Williams 3-0. Goalie Baker Katko made 14 saves for Williams (3-10-2).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Westbrook/Old Lyme’s Brooke Ouellette and Eimy Novillo were named to the All-Shoreline Conference first team, while Lotta Kuenning and Bella Ziegler were named to the second team. Katie Ford was an honorable mention selection.

    Women’s volleyball

    • Connecticut College was swept in three games against Amherst in a New England Small College Athletic Conference first-round match. Katherine Randall had 10 kills for the Camels (12-12, 2-9), who lost 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17. Caroline Festersen added 18 digs.

    • Emma Wheeler had a team-high 13 kills and added six blocks as Conn College picked up a 3-1 victory Thursday over Mount Holyoke in its regular-season finale in nonconference action at Luce Field House. Katherine Randall chipped in a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs for Conn (12-11), while Natasha Shrivastava handed out 26 assists.
