Champions crowned at Speedbowl season finale

The New London-Waterford Speedbowl season finale had been postponed multiple times by poor weather.

The weather finally cooperated on Saturday and the season wrapped up with six races.

Winning division titles were Todd Owen (SK Modifieds), Jason Palmer (Late Models), Al Stone III (Street Stocks), John O’Sullivan III (SK Lights), Brody Monahan (Trucks) and Christopher Garside (Mini Stocks).

Owen only needed to start the 35-lap race to wrap up his third straight title with 478 points. Owen, who finished fourth on Saturday, won four races in the division. Anthony Flannery, who also won four races, was second with 446 and Eric Berndt was third with 441 and three wins. RJ Marcotte won Saturday’s Race.

Palmer had already clinched his fourth Late Models title but won Saturday’s race for good measure. Palmer won eight times and finished with 453 points. Charles Bailey III was second with 350 and Emma Monahan was third with 335.

Stone’s second-place finish was more than enough to wrap up the title. The four-time winner had 424 points and won his fifth championship in the division. Shawn Gaedeke was second with 403 and Ed Gertsch Jr. was third with 391. Aaron Plemons won Saturday’s race.

Entering the SK Lights finale O’Sullivan had a three-point lead over Evan Bourgeois and clinched the title with his third win of the season for 310 points. Bourgeois, who won four times, was third in Saturday’s race and second in the points race with 309. Nickolas Hovey was third in points with 285 and finished second on Saturday.

Monahan’s third-place finish was good enough to secure the division title with 395 points and seven wins. Kyle Gero, who won Saturday’s race, finished second with 337 and Anthony Naglieri was third with 316.

Garside and John Bavolacco battled right to the end for the Mini Stocks title. Garside finished second on Saturday to win the title with 408 points and four wins. Bavolacco picked up his fourth win on Saturday and finished second with 401 points. Charles Canfield was third on Saturday and also finished third with 367.

Previously crowned winners included Isaiah Newcomb (Legends), Ben Castro (Super X-Cars) and Chris Palamar (X-Cars).

Newcomb had 349 points, Dylan Cote was second with 336 and Dylan Freeman was third with 326. Castro had 300 points, Sean Skinner was second with 298 and William Rheaume was third with 297. Palamar had 304 points, six-race winner Dylan Cabral was second with 292 and Chuck McDonald finished third with 250 points.
