    Local roundup: East Lyme wins Class L girls’ soccer opener

    East Lyme — Riddhi Venkatesh scored twice as No. 10 East Lyme beat No. 23 Rockville 4-1 in the first round of the CIAC Class L girls’ soccer tournament on Monday.

    The Vikings (13-5-1) play at No. 7 Bethel in the second round on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Lilah Hart and Juju Guarraia scored goals, Summer Antonino and Lacey Lee Keramidas had assists and Morgan Dube made two saves for East Lyme.

    In other games:

    • No. 5 NFA needed four round of penalty kicks to beat No. 28 Fairfield Warde 1-0 in the first round of the Class LL tournament. The Wildcats (15-2-2) won 15-13 in penalty kicks after the game was scoreless in regulation and overtime. NFA hosts No. 12 Trumbull in the second round on Wednesday.

    Ava Boenig had 11 saves in regulation for NFA. She also stopped three penalty kicks and made a penalty kick for the Wildcats.

    • No. 4 Waterford got goals from five different players and beat No. 29 East Hampton 5-0 in Class M. Charlotte Jessuck, Paige Jessuck and Anna Waddington had a goal and an assist each for the Lancers (15-2-2), who host No. 20 Northwestern Regional in the second round on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

    Sadie Tiven and Adyson Wiseman scored goals, Camryn Dickinson had a pair of assists and Victoria Sturm made three saves to earn her 12th shutout of the season for Waterford.

    • Freshman Mia Bonatti scored three goals as No. 13 Old Lyme beat No. 20 Wolcott Tech 9-1 in the first round of the Class S tournament. The Wildcats (10-6-3) play at Shoreline Conference rival No. 4 Morgan in the second round of Wednesday at 4 p.m.

    Kate Walsh, Kanon OHaru, Luisa Raby, Beatrice Hunt, Louisa Warlitz and Brooke Burgess scored goals, Warlitz, Burgess, Sydney Goulding, Aggie Hunt and Olivia Lovendale had assists and Grace Osborne made two saves for Old Lyme.

    • No. 10 Cromwell led 4-0 at halftime and went on to beat No. 23 Montville 7-1 in Class S. Allie Kondash scored for the Wolves (8-10-2) with Isabella Estelle assisting.

    • Breleigh Cooke scored twice as No. 16 Old Saybrook beat No. 17 Wheeler 5-0 in Class

    H.S. volleyball

    • Griswold beat No. 20 Hand 3-2 in the first round of the Class M tournament. The No. 13 Wolverines (13-8) play at No. 4 Seymour in the second round on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

    Ruby Logan had 32 digs and two aces, Bella Bruno had 19 assists, eight digs and seven aces, Abby Matheson had 10 kills, 29 digs and four aces and Kierra Neilson had seven kills, four blocks, 12 digs and two aces for Griswold.

    • No. 22 Old Lyme won the fifth game 15-12 to beat No. 11 Canton 3-2 in the first round of the CIAC Class S tournament. The Wildcats (10-12) play at No. 6 Hale-Ray in the second round on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

    Sydney Siefken had 15 kills and 18 digs, Peighton Andrews had nine kills and 18 digs, Grace Phaneuf had 37 assists and Maya LeQuire had 12 kills for Old Lyme, which won 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 15-12.

    • No. 15 Lyman Memorial swept No. 18 Wheeler in the first round of the Class S tournament, winning 25-23, 25-23, 25-15. The Bulldogs (10-12) play at Montville in the second round on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

    Isabella Shuckerow had eight kills and four aces, Erica Arpin had 15 digs, Avery Brooks had six kills and four aces and Jenny Lopez had 19 assists for Lyman.

    Men’s soccer

    • Connecticut College will play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday, playing Denison in Lancaster, Pa., at 6:30 p.m. The Camels (11-1-5) won the Div. III tournament in 2021. Conn suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Amherst ion the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.

    The Camels have scored 39 goals and allowed just 14. Jake Creus has seven goals and three assists, Matt Scoffone has seven goals and an assist and Elliot Spatz has four goals and three assists. Goalie Peter Silvester has seven shutouts.

    Friday’s first game pits host Franklin & Marshall against Geneva at 4 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday at 6 p.m.
