Cadet-Mariner Classic coming to Mitchell, CGA
New London — A partnership between Mitchell College and Coast Guard Academy will produce a two-day, two-venue men’s basketball event Friday and Saturday.
Mitchell will play Westfield State at 5:30 Friday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center, followed by Coast Guard vs. City College of New York (CCNY) at 7:30. At Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon, Mitchell will play CCNY at 1, followed by Coast Guard and Westfield State at 3.
“We are excited to be partnering again with Mitchell College for the Cadet-Mariner Classic,” Coast Guard coach Kevin Jaskiewicz said. “The two teams that have agreed to participate this year are outstanding institutions who have a rich basketball tradition.”
The tournament will also feature the Harrison “Honey” Fitch and Coast Guard Academy Leadership Summit. During the programming, the student-athletes and coaches will discuss and employ the LIFT (Leadership, Improvement, Future, Teamwork) and DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness) leadership models.
“Collaborating with the Coast Guard Academy in the Cadet-Mariner Classic is a wonderful opportunity to align and work with a neighboring institution right here in New London,” Mitchell coach Todd Peretz said. “The teamwork, leadership and partnership needed to run this event supports the core values of the Harrison Fitch Leadership Fund.”
