Gray leads St. Bernard into Day Holiday Classic
Amyre Gray has been the primary ballhandler for the St. Bernard boys, whose program has undergone a recent renaissance, hearkening the championship days of the early ’80s.
Gray, whose dad, Nick, played on a championship team at New London, comes by his abilities honestly. And now this season, with two key seniors lost to graduation, the Saints’ hopes to repeat are in the hands of the junior with the ball in his hands.
Gray and the Saints, ranked No. 4 in the latest state media poll, will play No. 1 East Catholic on Monday night in the third Day Holiday Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena. The rematch of the state’s defending Division I and II teams begins at 8 p.m.
Gray and coach Mark Jones sat down with GameDay last week and talked about their experiences. See the video on theday.com or here https://youtu.be/gcGs5vrG60E
The Day Holiday Classic also features the defending Class MM champion New London girls against defending Class L state champion E.O. Smith at 4 and the Windsor boys playing New London at 6.
Tickets are $10 (one ticket good for all three games) and may be purchased here: https://am.ticketmaster.com/mohegan/DayBasketball2023.
