UConn football announces 16 additions on signing day
Storrs — UConn football coach Jim Mora announced the program has received National Letters of Intent from 12 student-athletes as well as the addition of four transfers, as the early signing period for college football opened Wednesday.
“We are excited to announce the newest additions to the UConn football family,” Mora said in a release. “Our coaching staff has put in a lot of hard work and done a great job of bringing in a strong group of young men who will help us to continue building our football program. This is a solid start, but we still have work to do in the coming weeks as we build our roster for next season.”
The list includes linebacker Jon Morris, who led Fairfield Prep to the CIAC Class LL playoffs this season, honored as one of the state’s Top 28 football players by the Connecticut High School Coaches’ Association. Morris finished his senior year with 110 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and two interceptions.
Other high school players signing with the Huskies are defensive lineman Cooper Ackerman (Shrewsbury, Mass.), linebacker Ethan Hogg (Glenview, Ill.), running back Oliver Lundberg Coleman (Gothenburg, Sweden), offensive lineman Deron McLaughlin (Park Ridge, N.J.), wide receiver Brock Montgomery (Lebanon, Texas), tight end Clemens Richter (Dresden, Germany), offensive lineman Diego Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J.), wide receiver Terrence Smith (Aiken, S.C.), linebacker Kaleb Stewart (Miramer, Fla.), tight end Dominic Toy (Chester, Pa.) and quarterback Cole Welliver (Flower Mound, Texas).
