    Local roundup: Dykes leads Ledyard past New London

    Ledyard —Sophomore Maggie Dykes scored 25 points and had eight rebounds as Ledyard beat New London 45-43 in a girls’ basketball game on Wednesday night.

    Adrianna Hardison had 14 points and six rebounds and Helena Robinson had 10 rebounds for the Colonels (6-4). Serenity Lancaster had 17 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks to lead New London (7-4). Ky'Ani Allgood had 10 rebounds, Jaidelis Rivera had four steals and Nyarah Dudley had five rebounds and five assists.

    In other games:

    • Angelica Tompkins scored 23 points as St. Bernard beat Plainfield 43-41. Zanfina Gjonbalay scored nine points for the Saints (6-4). Morgan Yonush scored 17 for Plainfield.

    • Rory Risley scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds as Stonington beat Lyman Memorial 52-27. Katelyn Cadmus had 17 points and six rebounds and Presley Smith scored 11 for the Bears (4-5). Jenny Lopez had 11 points and Phoebe Carpenter scored 10 for Lyman (6-4).

    • NFA beat Killingly 45-29. Emily Orcutt had 11 points and Petra Berry scored 10 for NFA (7-5).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Goodwin Tech 25-14 in a CTC game. Melanie Hernandez led Grasso (1-8) with eight points.

    H.S. wrestling

    • NFA had five pins en route to a 51-20 win over East Lyme/Norwich Tech in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I match. Landon Herdic (106 pounds), Edward Lavoie (132), Dylan Vanegas (150), Naim Wallace (157) and Jesse Tingley (285) had pins for the Wildcats (14-3, 3-0) and teammates Jackson Sorel (126), Dugan Marsh (138), John Dexter (144) and Zaire Wallace (190) also won their matches.

    Lincoln Carlson (175) and Jonathan Harms (215) had pins for the Vikings (7-7, 1-1) and teammates Gianno Pearson (120) and Jacob Palermo (165) also won their matches.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Devan Williams scored 31 points as New London beat Bacon Academy 94-40. The win was the 200th for Whalers coach Dave Cornish. His first win also came against Bacon, in 2011 when he was coaching at Ledyard

    Amir Hall had 18 points and Cayden Simonds-Gaskin scored 15 for New London (7-3). Troy Johnson led Bacon (2-7) with 16 points.

    • Xavier Goode scored 29 points to lead Fitch to a 73-67 win over Stonington. JJ Robinson had 16 points, six assists and three steals and Jacob Francis scored 10 for the Falcons (9-2). Robbie Scavello had 29 points and Alex Nowak scored 12 for the Bears (6-4).Lyme-Old Lyme Wildcats 66, Valley Warriors 55

    • Eddie Fiske scored 20 points as Old Lyme beat Valley Regional 66-55 in a Shoreline Conference game. Leland Hine had 13 points for the Wildcats (7-3). Connor Quinn scored 24 for Valley.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Goodwin Tech 83-74 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Nick Stavesky had 29 points and Charis Johnson scored 14 for Grasso (4-5).

    H.S. hockey

    • The Eastern CT Eagles lost to Guilford 8-4. Drew Sager (East Lyme) and Ethan Lovetere (Bacon) had a goal and an assist each, Jack Cramer (Stonington) and Dakota Fox (East Lyme) scored and Kaden Casteel (Waterford) and Nick Rembish (St Bernard) had assists for the Eagles (2-7-1).

    Women’s basketball

    • Coast Guard ended a nine-game losing streak against Springfield with a 51-18 win in the NEWMAC game. Julia Mann had 14 points and eight rebounds, Kelly Hagerty had 16 rebounds and Glory Blethen had six rebounds and two blocks for the Bears (13-3, 2-0).

    College honors

    • Mitchell College senior Yasmine Santos was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. She also picked up another regional and national recognition.

    Santos, who is averaging 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game this season, was one of five players named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. She earned the honor for the first time in her career and joins Amina Wiley (Class of 2023) as the second Mitchell player to ever receive the honor.

    • Dan Driscoll of Waterford was a second team pick to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America team. The junior left-handed pitcher at Eastern Connecticut State was 8-4 in 2023 for the Warriors after transferring from Mitchell College. He had a 2.63 earned run average with 87 strikeouts and 16 walks in 75 1/3 innings with a 2.63 ERA.
