    Local roundup: Mazzi lifts Old Lyme girls to second at Shoreline track championship

    New Haven — Serena Mazzi won the 55-meter dash in 7.64 seconds and the long jump at 16 feet, 2.75 inches as the Old Lyme High School girls finished second at the Shoreline Conference indoor track & field championship at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

    Old Saybrook won the girls’ title with 109 points, followed by Old Lyme with 97. Cromwell won the boys’ meet with 106. Old Lyme was ninth with 21.

    Mazzi, a sophomore, was also second in the 300 in 44.87.

    Also for the Wildcats on the girls’ side, Kathleen Walsh won the 600 (1:47.24) and Old Lyme won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Walsh, Bronwyn Kyle, Beatrice Hunt and Alexis Antonellis took the 4x400 in 4:30.40 and Walsh, Beatrice Hunt, Aggie Hunt and Gabrielle Field were first in the 4x800 in 10:38.07.

    Field was fourth in the 300, Agatha Hunt fourth in the 1,000, Tabitha Colwell fifth in the 55 dash, Beatrice Hunt fifth in the 600 and Nyla Goulis fifth in the shot put. The Wildcats’ sprint medley relay team was third and the 4x200 relay team was sixth.

    In the boys’ meet, Old Lyme sophomore Tyler Cann was third in the shot put at 45-7.5 and Ryan Ortoleva was sixth in the 1,600. The Wildcats’ 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams were both sixth.

    Boys’ basketball

    • Xavier Goode scored 30 points and added six steals to lift Fitch past Harding 74-63 in a nonconference game. JJ Robinson chipped in 26 points, six assists and five steals for the Falcons (10-5) and Nate Virtue had eight points. During its Senior Night festivities, Fitch honored Virtue, Ben Perry, Zander Timmerman and Jacob Francis.

    • Troy McKelvin Jr. scored 30 points to power St. Bernard, the sixth ranked team in the state, past East Lyme 76-43 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. Naz Rembert had 12 for the Saints (14-2, 6-0), who have won 10 straight. Mike Timpano had 11 points for the Vikings (9-6, 1-6).

    • New London rolled past Norwich Free Academy 92-48 in ECC Division I. Devan Williams had 25 points and Da’Shaun Phillips had 21 for the Whalers (13-3, 4-2). The Wildcats are 7-7, 2-5.

    • Wheeler improved to 10-4 overall, 5-0 in ECC Division IV with a 63-62 win over Tourtellotte. Keith Zardies (19 points), Deondre Bransford (16) and Zane Brewer (16 points, 17 rebounds) led the Lions.

    • Leland Hines scored a game-high 21 points in Old Lyme’s 48-27 win over Hale Ray in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 9-4, 7-0.

    • Joey Moore scored 18 points and Jerry Santiago had 10 in Grasso Tech’s 81-54 loss to Windham Tech. The Eagles fell to 8-7.

    • Jadiel Thomas scored 15 points and Henry Champagne had 11 for The Williams School in a 41-31 loss to Eagle Hill.

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Lena Cosetino had 11 points while Ally Lacobells and Kate Van-Berkle each had 10 to lead Williams School over Eagle Hill 51-34.

    • Ava Roth had eight points and six steals in Old Lyme’s 49-33 loss to Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 6-9, 4-2.

    • Lillian Luurtsema scored 13 points and had eight rebounds for Norwich Tech in a 56-35 loss to Ellis Tech. Abby Ulrich and Autumn Hanks had 10 points apiece for the Warriors (5-9).

    • Phoebe Carpenter had 21 points, 20 rebounds and blocked four shots as Lyman Memorial beat Griswold 52-34 on Thursday. Jenny Lopez had 10 points, nine assists, five rebounds and five steals and Kelsey Dunnack had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (10-5). Abby Matheson had 15 points and seven rebounds for Griswold (4-12).

    Women’s basketball

    • Connecticut College dropped its eighth straight game with a 58-48 loss at Amherst in New England Small College Athletic Conference action. Rebecca Oberman-Levi had 19 points and Mia Xerras added 12 for the Camels (5-15, 0-7).

    Men’s basketball

    • A balanced scoring attack led Connecticut College past Amherst 80-62 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Elias Espinosa led the Camels (16-5, 6-1), who’ve won four straight, with 17 points and Ben Rice had 16 while David Murray had 14 and Dylan Watson added 12. Conn jumped out to a 50-29 halftime lead.

    • Avery Point lost to Bristol Community College 87-71 on Thursday night. Trevor Buchanan had 24 points and Griswold’s Jeff Souvenance scored 21 for the Pointers (4-18).
