    Local roundup: Murray, Espinosa lead Camels to victory

    New London — David Murray scored 24 points and Elias Espinosa had 23 as Connecticut College beat Hamilton 94-77 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball game on Sunday.

    Cam Schainfeld had 13 points and nine assists, Jarron Flynn scored 12, Ben Rice had 11 rebounds and Murray had seven rebounds for the Camels (17-5, 7-1).

    Conn secured a top-3 finish in the league standings and the right to host a quarterfinal game in the NESCAC tournament for the first time since 2002. The Camels are tied for the second place in the league and the seven NESCAC wins are the most by the program since the league began championship play in 2000-01.

    Garret Keyhani led Hamilton (10-12, 3-5) with 22 points and eight rebounds.

    In other games:

    • Trevor Buchanan scored 26 points as Avery Point beat the Mitchell College junior varsity 78-41. Jeff Souvenance of Griswold scored 20 for the Pointers (5-19). Aidan Buck led Mitchell with 16 points.

    Women’s basketball

    • Conn College lost to Hamilton 69-63 in a NESCAC game. Addi Hunter and Rebecca Oberman-Levine scored 12 points each, Aislinn McMahon had 10 points and Avery Burns had four assists and three steals for the Camels (5-16, 0-8). Kendall Harris led Hamilton (16-6, 4-4) with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

    Men’s hockey

    • UConn beat No. 10 Providence 2-1 in a Hockey East game on Saturday. Ethan Haider made 42 saves and Jake Richard and Chase Bradley scored goals for the Huskies (12-13-2, 7-9-1).

    • Conn College lost to Tufts 4-0 in a NESCAC game on Saturday night. Sean Dynan made 29 saves for the Camels (8-10-2, 6-8).

    Men’s swimming

    • No. 23 Conn College beat Wesleyan 196.5-90.5 on Saturday. Matthew Morris and Cam Bizjak each won two events for the Camels (8-2).

    Morris won the 100 backstroke (50.64) and 200 backstroke (1:50.26) and Bizjak won the 1-meter diving (448.05 points) and 3-meter diving (432.07). Also winning events for Conn were Evan Lyons, Ian Sullivan, Justin Finkel, Cooper Voss, Gabe Frank and Matthew Laclef.

    Women’s swimming

    • Conn College beat Wesleyan 154-140 on Saturday. Winning events for the Camels (4-5) were Stephanie Shawaryn, Rosemary Bonadies, Ella Behling, Kailin Fuller, Jenna Charlat, Leah Mayerhauser, Hannah Guay and Sarah Franco.
