    Local roundup: NFA wins volleyball opener

    Norwich — Alec Ferland had 16 assists as Norwich Free Academy beat Innovation 25-5, 25-6, 25-12 on Monday in its boys’ volleyball opener.

    Tyler McDermott had eight kills and Bryan Contreras nine digs for NFA (1-0).

    H.S. girls’ tennis

    • Elaina Morosky won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Old Lyme opened its season with a 7-0 win over East Hampton in the Shoreline Conference. Katherine Zhang, Emma Arelt and Rose Dimmock also won in singles for the Wildcats.

    • Norwich Free Academy won all four singles matches and edged Windham, 4-3. Leeya Fabry, Katie Lavoie, Pulina Grzelczak and Talia Gonzalez were NFA’s winners.

    • St. Bernard beat Woodstock Academy 4-3. Blake Murray, Meri Kambolli and Zhuning Gao won matches for the Saints along with the doubles team of Mia Gashi and Ava Little.

    H.S. baseball

    • Stonington snapped a scoreless tie in the fifth inning and defeated Lyman Memorial, 7-3. Aaron LoPresto had three hits and winning pitcher Dylan Cimini had two hits for the Bears (1-0). Jared Russo had two hits for the Bulldogs (1-1).

    • Old Lyme scored six runs in the second inning and defeated Coginchaug 9-3 in the Shoreline Conference. Jackson Pannier and Julio Fuentes had two hits apiece for the Wildcats (1-1, 1-1).

    • Bacon scored five runs in the first and defeated Windham 18-4 in a game shortened to five innings. Chris Lusignan had three hits, Mason Pingree scored three runs, Eli Chiaverini drove in two runs and A.J. O’Neill hit a two-run double for the Bobcats (1-0).

    • Ryan Cleary hit two doubles and drove in a run as Norwich Free Academy defeated Killingly, 6-2. Dan St. George was the winning pitcher.

    • Andrew Hardin was the pitcher and drove in two runs as Griswold beat Ellis Tech 9-5. Hardin struck out eight in 6.2 innings. KinKade Rubino and Sean Garvin had two hits each for the Wolverines.

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Brady O’Neill won No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1 and Stonington defeated Fitch, 7-0. Matt Turisi, Peter Schoencker and Thomas Lyon also win in singles for the Bears (1-0).

    • East Lyme swept singles and defeated Waterford, 5-2. Jiarui Peng, Ajay Rena, Kenny Zheng and Sid Jain won in singles for the Vikings (1-0). Louis Dhervilly/Adam Balfour and Alistair Haglund/Jayden Campisi won doubles for Waterford.

    • Old Lyme beat East Hampton 5-2. Micah Bass, Andy Sicuranza and Alis Bicic won matches for the Wildcats along with the teams of Mason Wells-Chris Dagher and Ryan Miller-Rowan Hovey.

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Sydney Goulding scored seven goals and Old Lyme defeated Morgan, 17-5. Alexis Antonellis had four goals for Old Lyme (1-0).

    College baseball

    • Charles Red pitched 1.2 innings of hitless relief and earned the save, preserving Coast Guard’s 7-3 win over Westfield State. Nathan Stafford had three RBI for the Bears (10-5).
