    H.S. roundup: Wheeler tops Stonington in baseball

    North Stonington — Kyle Kessler scored the deciding run from second base Friday on a sixth-inning sacrifice bunt by Sean Bergel as the Wheeler High School baseball team beat Stonington 4-2.

    Pitcher Bradin Anderson allowed one run and three hits in six innings for Wheeler. Cam Ogden struck out 11 in five no-hit innings for Stonington. Aaron LoPresto had two hits and a run for the Bears.

    In other games:

    • Griswold scored 13 runs in the fourth inning and defeated Tourtellotte, 21-0. Calvin Oddo was the winning pitcher and and scored two runs for the Wolverines (3-0).

    • Chase Linski had three hits and three runs scored as Waterford defeated New London, 11-1. Zach Ruest had two hits and three runs scored and Dylan Matis was the winning pitcher for the Lancers (1-0). Eddie Torres homered for New London (0-2).

    Girls’ lacrosse

    • Cromwell defeated New London, 16-6. Malahika Paulo scored five goals for the Whalers (0-3).

    • Wheeler defeated Rocky Hill, 17-13. Grace Cassata had five goals and Sophia Gouveia seven goals and six assists for the Lions (1-0).

    • Ally Iacobellis scored five goals in the Williams School’s 20-8 loss to Rocky Hill School. Skylar Frost added two goals and five assists for the Blues.

    Boys’ lacrosse

    • St. Bernard/Wheeler jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to beat Waterford 16-8 on Thursday night. Will Sluggett led the Saints (1-0) with five goals, Ben Howes scored four goals, Noah Courter had three goals and Jimmy Niles scored twice. Ben Dubicki scored three goals, Johan Deon scored twice and Avery Bonewicz had a goal and an assist for Waterford (1-2).

    • East Lyme lost to Notre Dame-West Haven 14-6 in a nonleague game on Thursday night. Juan Morales Jr. scored twice, Drew Sager had a goal and two assists and Jack Campbell had a goal and an assist for East Lyme (2-1).

    Girls’ tennis

    • Sarah Hage won No. 1 singles as Waterford defeated St. Bernard, 6-1. Maria Hathaway and Tori Campisi also won in singles for the Lancers (2-0). Blake Murray won No. 2 singles for the Saints (1-1).

    • Old Lyme remained undefeated with a 7-0 win over Old Saybrook. Elaina Morosky, Katherine Zhang, Emma Arelt and Rose Dimmock won in singles for the Wildcats (2-0).

    • Grace Duggan won No. 1 singles and Stonington blanked Norwich Free Academy, 7-0. Marcella Hamm, Marina Lewandowski and Misha Lewandowski also won in singles for the Bears (1-0).

    Boys’ tennis

    • Benny Wu, Fenlei Chen and Jack Bowman won in singles and Montville defeated New London, 5-2 in ECC Div. III. The Wolves are 1-0, 1-0. Nico Churis won No. 2 singles for the Whalers (0-1, 0-1).

    • Stonington defeated Killingly, 7-0. Brady O’Neil, Matthew Turrisi, Peter Schoenecker and Sean Lord won in singles for the Bears (2-0).

    • Andres Sardar, Evan Whitten and Michael Petropoulos won in singles and Fitch defeated Ledyard, 5-2. The Falcons are 1-1. Malloch Allison won No. 2 singles for the Colonels (0-1).

    • Christos Matsas won No. 1 singles in straight sets and Waterford blanked Norwich Free Academy, 7-0. Ian Balfour, Quinn LeBelle and Colton Murch also won in singles for the Lancers (1-1).

    Boys’ volleyball

    • Computer Science defeated Norwich Tech 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21. Bradley Martell had 11 kills, Angel Garcia 14 assists and Mason Matthews 10 digs for Norwich Tech (2-1).
