    H.S. roundup: Stonington edges Old Lyme 4-3 in girls’ tennis

    Old Lyme — Grace Duggan and Gwen McGugan won singles matches for the Stonington High School girls’ tennis team and the Bears edged defending Class S champion Old Lyme 4-3 Wednesday to remain unbeaten at 11-0.

    Stonington also got doubles wins from the teams of Angelina Williams-Maya Bengton and Bethany Schoenecker-Danielle Liston.

    Old Lyme, which had won 78 straight matches prior to Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Waterford, is 13-2, with the Wildcats having scheduled tough nonleague competition prior to the postseason.

    Katherine Zhang won her No. 2 singles match for Old Lyme, Emma Arelt won at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles duo of Aggie and Beatrice Hunt also picked up a victory.

    In other matches:

    • Claire Fenaughty, Cassie Rice, Sarah Banach and Rachel Kulterman swept singles matches in straight sets and Ledyard defeated Norwich Free Academy 7-0 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II. Also earning wins for Ledyard (7-4, 5-0) were the doubles teams of Lia Day-Alanah Maranzano, Anna Maynard-Marissa DePaul and Shelby Morrison-Hadley Kirkland. NFA is 3-7, 0-4.

    • Waterford didn’t drop a set in a 7-0 win over Montville on Tuesday. Sarah Hage, Michelle Liu, Bri Kilcomons and Jolina Campisi won their matches for the Lancers (9-2) along with the teams of Hazel Siu-Maple Siu, Ava Tinnerello-Grace Stilphen and Madi Gamble-Lillian Labrie.

    Boys’ tennis

    • Tucker Callahan, Brady O’Neil and Matthew Turrisi won singles matches in straight sets as Stonintgon defeated Waterford 5-2 in ECC Division I. The doubles teams of Chase Donnarummo and Sam Lund at No. 1 and Thomas Lyon and Sean Lord at No. 2 also earned wins for the Bears (15-0, 6-0). Colton Murch won his No. 4 singles match in three sets for Waterford (10-3, 3-3).

    • Sebastian Fieldsend, Malloch Allison and Ben Wolford won singles matches for Ledyard, which defeated Woodstock Academy 6-1. The Colonels also got wins from the doubles teams of Tyler Mileski-Jordan Yeung, Hendrick Trieu-Luke Anderson and Colin Westkott-Aiden Williams.

    Girls’ golf

    • Stonington’s Adilyn Risley earned medalist honors with a 48 and the Bears defeated NFA 209-221 in an ECC match at Norwich Golf Course. Allie Mentz added a 51 for Stonington. Rianna Cavanna led NFA with a 50.

    Boys’ golf

    • Grasso Tech’s Logan Holt was co-medalist with a 45 as the Eagles defeated Plainfield and New London at Pequot Golf Course. Grasso finished with a team total of 201. Plainfield’s Brayden Marquis also shot a 45.

    Girls’ lacrosse

    • Tatianna Irizarry had six goals and Maddie McLeod had four goals and an assist in Ledyard’s 14-5 win over Old Lyme. Mackenzie Boyer added three goals for the Colonels (9-3) and coach Tinita Larmann credited the team’s defensive line of Jessica Dudley, Baileigh Johnson, Emma-Sonia Henry-Ortiz and Dior Vasquez in the victory. Five different players scored for Old Lyme (10-2).

    • Victoria Sturm had three goals and an assist as Waterford beat NFA 11-3 on Tuesday night. Quinn Brigham had two goals and two assists, Madison LaForte had two goals and an assist, Payton Smith and Katie Jamroga had a goal and an assist each and Adyson Wiseman and Sadie Tiven scored goals for the Lancers (11-1). Alice Rourke had a goal and an assist for NFA (7-5).

    • Taylor Kachinsky scored five goals as East Lyme beat Montville 15-5 on Tuesday. Gianna DiLoreto scored four goals with an assist, Riddhi Venkatesh had three goals and two assists, Callan Keefe had two goals and an assist and Cassidy O'Brien had four assists for the Vikings (4-8). Kylie Spreng scored three goals for Montville (4-7).

    • Gabby Dimock had seven goals and an assist as Fitch beat Bacon Academy/East Hampton 19-3 on Tuesday. Bethany Lovering had four goals and three assists, Brooke Bergendahl had three goals and an assist and Stella Connell scored twice for the Falcons (8-3).

    Softball

    ​• Anabelle Wenzel (double, 3 RBI), Aubree Nygaard (double, 2 runs), Maddie Scribner (double, 2 runs) and Angelica Tompkins (2 runs, 2 RBI) had two hits each for St. Bernard in a 10-4 victory over Plainfield in ECC Division III. Winning pitcher Katie Scribner struck out six and allowed just one earned run for the Saints (9-6, 3-3).

    • Autumn Hanks pitched a five hitter and added a double and four runs scored in Norwich Tech’s 17-5 victory over Ellis Tech in five innings. Nyomi Barboza was 4-for-4 with a double, four runs and five RBI for Norwich Tech (9-7), while Morgan Cook had three hits and Khaiyanna Maldonado (triple), Diana Kozerefski and Maya Stimson each had two.

    • Emma Bayor and Sybil Neary combined to pitch a five-inning no-hitter and each hit a three-run homer as Old Lyme beat Morgan 19-1 in a Shoreline Conference game on Tuesday. Bayor drove in four runs, scored three runs and collected the 100th and 101st hits of her career. Neary drove in five runs. Ava Roth, Anna Eichholz and Grace Osborne had three hits each for the Wildcats (11-4, 10-2) and Roth scored five runs.

    Baseball

    • Dom Zuliani drove in three runs as Fitch beat Waterford 9-5 in an ECC Division I game on Tuesday night. Griffin Pollard scored three runs and Pat Lindy, winning pitcher Trace Morales, Zuliani and Pollard had three hits each for the Falcons (7-8, 1-4). Harley Mish homered, singled and drove in two runs, Max Petrini doubled and Zaydin Martinez had two hits for the Lancers (10-5, 2-4).
