    Local roundup: Goderre, O’Farrell lead NFA to Wildcat Invitational girls’ title

    Norwich — Host Norwich Free Academy won the Wildcat Invitational in a girls’ golf match on Tuesday at the Norwich Golf Course.

    The Wildcats won with a team score of 201 and NFA’s Caroline Goderre was the medalist with a 44. Mackenzie Pothier of Killingly/Ellis Tech had a 46 and NFA’s Erin O’Farrell shot a 49.

    Killingly/Ellis Tech was second with 216, Stonington was third at 235 and Bacon Academy and East Lyme tied for fourth with 250.

    In other matches:

    • Stonington beat Bacon Academy 215-270 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference match on Monday. Adilyn Risley of Stonington (3-4, 3-4) was the medalist with a 50 and teammate Jamie Halloran shot a 51.

    H.S. boys’ golf

    • Griswold shot a season-best 169 and blanked New London 7-0 in an ECC Division III match at Great Neck Country Club. Gennaro Lavado shot 39 and Josiah Wells shot 41 to lead the Wolverines (6-3, 4-0).

    H.S. baseball

    • Eddie Torres had two hits, scored two runs and pitched a complete game as New London defeated Ledyard 8-2 in ECC Division III. Darius Aquino, Joey Dougherty and Jacoby LaFleur had two hits apiece for New London (5-9, 2-1) and Lou Anaya had two RBI.

    • Jack Treat pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Montville defeated Morgan 5-1. Cole Terni had a hit, RBI and run scored for the Wolves (12-3).

    • Aidan Cochrane pitched a four-hit shutout and East Lyme won for the sixth time in seven games with a 4-0 victory over NFA in ECC Division I. Tanner O’Brien had three hits and two RBI for the Vikings (11-4, 5-1).

    • Stonington scored a run in the bottom of the 10th and edged Plainfield 10-9 in ECC Division III. Dylan Cimini homered and drove in six runs for the Bears (9-5, 3-2).

    • Martin Light pitched a complete game no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and St. Bernard blanked Killingly 9-0 in ECC Division II. It was the third time Light allowed four hits or fewer this season. Chris Tonucci hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Saints (9-4, 3-0).

    • Jake Duthrie went 3-for-4 with a two-run single in a decisive seven-run sixth inning as Griswold defeated Bacon Academy 12-6 in ECC Division III. Winning pitcher Colin Mitchell added two hits and Andrew Hardin stole three bases for Griswold (11-5, 4-1). AJ O’Neill had two hits and two RBI for Bacon (7-6, 2-3).

    • Sean Bergel pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Wheeler beat Plainfield 4-1in the completion of a suspended game. Bergel alsol had two hits, Garrett Lenihan drove in two runs and James Maine scored twice for the Lions (9-4).

    H.S. softball

    • Brielle Kenney pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts as Waterford defeated Fitch 8-1 in ECC Division I. Melanie Martin homered and Kenney, Charlotte Jessuck and Paige Jessuck had two hits apiece for the Lancers (11-5, 5-1). Fitch is 6-7, 1-3.

    • Chloe Sanders had two hits and four RBI as Wheeler defeated Windham Tech 12-3. Isabella Deledda hit a two-run triple and Reese Main and Victoria Kleeman had two hits apiece for the Lions (7-4).

    • Bacon Academy swept New London in an ECC Division II doubleheader 19-2 and 4-3. Riley Stolaman had a combined four hits and seven RBI for the Bobcats (11-4, 3-2). Alina Skrabacz had an RBI in each game for New London (2-10, 0-6).

    • Anabelle Wenzel pitched a four-hitter as St. Bernard beat Griswold 5-1 in an ECC Division III game on Monday. Aubree Nygaard (two RBI), Madison Scribner and Angelica Tompkins had two hits each for the Saints (8-6, 2-3). Summer McLean had two hits for Griswold (11-4, 3-2).

    H.S. girls’ tennis

    • East Lyme defeated NFA 7-0. Valentina Schiano, Isabella Villarreal and Avni Kabra won in singles for the Vikings (NFA forfeited No. 4 singles) while Veronica Castro-Jessica Feng, Jessica Joe-Sophia Joe and Peini Lin-Lila Aram won in doubles. East Lyme is 6-4.

    • Sasha Manzione won No. 1 singles and St. Bernard blanked New London 7-0 in ECC Division III. Blake Murray, Meri Kambolli and Zhuning Gao also won in singles for the Saints (8-2, 5-0).

    • Waterford beat Woodstock Academy 7-0 on Monday. Sarah Hage, Michelle Liu, Maria Hathaway and Tori Campisi were straight-set winners for the Lancers (8-2).

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Waterford beat Ledyard 7-0 on Monday. Christos Matsas, Ian Balfour, Quinn LeBelle and Colton Murch were straight-set winners for the Lancers (10-2). Ledyard is 7-5.

    College honors

    • A pair of Connecticut College women’s lacrosse players were honored by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Senior goalie Violette Nidds made the first team and junior Aine Downey was a second team selection.

    Nidds started every game, compiling a 7-8 record, with 111 saves, a 10.31 goals against average, and a .425 save percentage, while leading the conference with 7.40 saves per game. Downey had 41 points on 24 goals and 17 assists, controlling 49 draws, scooping up 48 ground balls, and forcing 13 turnovers.
