    Local roundup: Stonington girls’ tennis team remains unbeaten

    Stonington — The Stonington girls’ tennis team remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over East Lyme in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I match on Friday.

    Grace Duggan won No. 1 singles for the Bears (12-0, 5-0). Misha Lewandowski, Marina Lewandowski and Gwen McGugan also won in singles for Stonington. East Lyme is 6-5, 0-5.

    In other matches:

    • Ledyard swept singles play and beat New London 6-1. Claire Fenaughty, Cassie Rice, Sarah Banach and Rachel Kulterman won in straight sets for the Colonels (8-4) along with the doubles teams of Lia Day-Izzy Treaster and Anna Maynard-Marissa DePaul. Addison Hurd and Nakayla Isaac won at No. 3 doubles for the Whalers (2-11).

    • Norwich Tech swept doubles play to beat Prince Tech 5-2 on Thursday. Alejandra Cardona and Sophia Caballero won their matches for the Eagles (2-6). The doubles teams of Emily Pomerleau-Zerrin Ratzer and Aleza Lopez-Makenzie Stabach won and are unbeaten this season. Mila Ladau and Jarelis Acevedo won at No. 3 doubles.

    College baseball

    • Avery Point beat Monroe Community College 7-4 in the best-of-three NJCAA sub-district tournament at Roger Bidwell Field in Groton. Ray Campbell had three hits, Riley Carew had two hits and Liam Chamberlain was the winning pitcher for the Pointers (17-13). Game 2 in Saturday at 1 p.m.

    H.S. boys’ golf

    • Undefeated Wheeler beat Stonington 5.5-1.5. Tyler Signor, Gavin Arruda (38) and Cameron Conway won matches for the Lions (11-0). Ethan Torres of Stonington (3-7) was the medalist and teammate Jaxon Davis split with Wheeler’s Seamus Doyle.

    • East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Stonington on Thursday. Tyler Moore, Sebby DeCosta and Max Weston of the Vikings (10-0) shared medalist honors at 37. Jack Bucko (38) and Nate Blankenship also won their matches for East Lyme.

    • Bacon Academy’s Alex Gallardo and John Ceruti each shot a 1-under-par 35 Thursday in a 5-2 loss to Woodstock Academy at Quinnatisset Country Club. The Bobcats are 5-4.

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Stonington lost to Haddam-Killingworth 9-5 in a nonleague game. Ethan Mahoney scored three goals, Andrew Whitman made 15 saves, Maclan Griscom had a goal and an assist and Kyle Olsson scored a goal for the Bears (7-7).

    • Drew Sager had five goals and three assists and Jack Campbell four goals and two assists as East Lyme defeated Waterford 13-3 Thursday in ECC Division I. Gabe Hanney added two goals for the Vikings (8-4, 6-1), who led 6-1 at halftime. Johan Deon, Avery Bonewicz and Ethan Stelik each had a goal for Waterford (5-9, 3-5).

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Andres Sardar won No. 1 singles and Fitch defeated Old Lyme 6-1. Evan Whitten, Charlie Gempp and Michael Petropolos also won in singles for Fitch (7-6).

    • ECC Division III champion Montville swept doubles play and beat St. Bernard/Wheeler 5-2 to finish division play unbeaten. The teams of Jack Bowma-/Ryan Hochdorfer and Adam Gallagher-Nathan Dhillon won for the Wolves (11-4, 6-0) along with Darren Chen at No. 3 single. Montville also won two matches by forfeit. Wyatt Hayes and Sam Cunningham won matches for the Saints (4-9, 1-4).

    Connecticut Sun moves

    • The Connecticut Sun announced that they waived recent draft picks Taiyanna Jackson and Helena Pueyo on Friday. Jackson, a 6-6 center, was drafted 19th overall out of Kansas. Pueyo, a guard, was drafted 22nd overall out of Arizona.

    H.S. softball

    • Killingly denied Ledyard a chance to win ECC Div. II with a 4-1 win. Lexi Lemmon struck out 10 for the Colonels (11-5, 4-1) and Mia Starling had two hits. Ledyard can still win the title by beating Bacon on May 17.

    • Waterford rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth and defeated Westerly 3-2. Ava Majeski hit the go-ahead two-run single for the Lancers (12-5).

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Old Lyme defeated Valley Regional 17-6. Ella Curtiss Reardon scored five goals for Old Lyme (11-2) and Sydney Goulding and Alexis Antonellis had four goals apiece.

    H.S. boys’ track

    • Grasso Tech’s Nicholas Stavesky won the 800 meters (2:14.6) and led the Eagles’ 4x400 relay to a victory, as well, at the Connecticut Technical Conference East championship meet Thursday in Groton. Stavesky joined Adrian Bouchard, Emilio Armijo and Amais Thompson in winning the 4x400 in 3:48.59. Norwich Tech’s Jaden Sorenson won the javelin with a throw of 108-7. Windham Tech won the meet with 179 points. Norwich Tech was fifth (48.5) and Grasso Tech sixth (47).

    H.S. girls’ track

    • Leah Kozerfeski won the 3,200 and Kiera Pringle the triple jump to lead Norwich Tech to a second-place team finish Thursday at the CTC East championship at Grasso Tech. The Warriors also got a win from the 4x400 team of Zoe Avery, Pringle, Olivia Luurtsema and Kaelyn Sullivan (5:15.44). Alyssa Lombardi won the 400 for Grasso Tech. Windham Tech won the meet with 127, followed by Norwich Tech at 79. Grasso was sixth with 26.
