    H.S. baseball: Saints wrap up ECC Division II title

    Montville — St. Bernard clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II baseball title with a 7-2 victory over New London on Saturday.

    The Saints (11-4, 5-0) moved up this season after competing in Division IV last season.

    Winning pitcher Conner Gallagher allowed two runs and six hits in six innings and reliever Desmond Powers closed the game by wiggling out a bases loaded jam, striking out the side.

    Chris Tonucci slugged a home run and finished with two RBI for the Saints and Colin O’Leary had two singles and a triple.

    The Whalers fell to 5-11, 2-3.

    In other games:

    • Bradin Anderson threw a no-hitter, walking one and striking out 14, as Wheeler blanked Windham, 5-0, in ECC Division IV. Sean Bergel had two hits and two RBI for the Lions (10-5, 3-3) and Mason Perkins had a single and two doubles and Noah Klewin added a single and RBI.

    • Andrew McElwee tossed a two-hitter, walking three and striking out 12, in Montville’s 7-0 shutout of Plainfield in ECC Division III. Cole Terni went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Jack Treat had a single, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored for the Wolves (13-4, 4-2).

    • Stonington scored eight runs in both the third and fourth innings on the way to a 16-1 win over Griswold in an ECC Division III game that went five innings. Winning pitcher Dylan Cimini had a single, double and four RBI while Jace Wolfradt added two doubles and three RBI and Wyatt Verbridge had two hits and two RBI for the Bears (11-5, 5-2). Andrew Hardin had a single and an RBI for the Wolverines (11-6, 4-2).

    • Bacon Academy took the lead for good with four runs in the first inning in a 12-5 win over Norwich Tech. Winning pitcher Ethan Creutz had a two-run single and finished with three RBI while Chris Lusignan and Eli Chiaverini each had two hits and scored two runs for the Bobcats (8-7). Logan Spillane had a two-run home run for the Warriors (7-10).

    • Lyman Memorial swept a Division IV doubleheader from Tourtellotte by 10-0 and 15-0 scores. Nick Chalifoux had a double, triple, scored two runs and drove in two for the Bulldogs (13-4, 7-0) while Jared Russo went 2 for 3 with three RBI.

    • Grady Lacourciere’s grand slam highlighted an eight-run third inning, as Old Lyme defeated Granby Memorial, 11-1. Jack Porter chipped in three hits and an RBI while Ben Frazier had two hits and Gio Winters was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats (8-8).

    • Fitch lost to Hamden 8-3. Dom Zuliani, Tommy Rogers and Mark McBride had two hits each for the Falcons (8-9).
