“Dreamgirls” brings the tale of the rise, drama and fallout of a 1960s Motown girl group to Goodspeed Musicals.

This show, which runs Friday to Dec. 30 at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, won all sorts of Tonys and Grammys when it premiered on Broadway in 1981. A 2006 film brought it to the big screen and starred Beyonce and an Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson.

The cast features Ta-Tynisa Wilson as Deena and Keirsten Hodgens as Lorrell. As Effie, Trejah Bostic gets to sing the iconic "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going.”

Lili-Anne Brown directs the production, and Breon Arzell handles the choreography. “Dreamgirls” features book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger.
