Goodspeed Musicals’ Terris Theatre kicks off its 2024 season with “A Complicated Woman,” which opens Friday.

The musical is inspired by John Kenley (1906-2009), a theater impresario who lived a double life. In his career life, he populated the summer stock stages in Ohio with such big-screen luminaries as Gene Kelly and Ann Miller. During the winter, he spent time in Florida … as Jean. Goodspeed stated that the show features a Golden Age score and a gender-diverse cast.

“A Complicated Woman” boasts a book by Ianne Fields Stewart, music by Jonathan Brielle, and lyrics by Sam Salmond and Brielle.

Directing the Terris production is Jeff Calhoun, whose Broadway credits include “Newsies” and “Bonnie & Clyde.”

    “A Complicated Woman,” Friday-June 2, Terris Theatre, 33 North Main St., Chester; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wed., 7:30 p.m. Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri., 3 and 8 p.m. Sat., and 2 p.m. Sun.; also 2 p.m. on select Thursdays and 6:30 p.m. on select Sundays; tickets are $20 and up; season tickets available for three shows start at $117; (860) 873-8668, goodspeed.org.
