Man charged in UConn death offered plea deal

Vernon - A man charged with punching a University of Connecticut student who later died from the blow has been offered a plea bargain and will have the next three weeks to think it over. Twenty-year-old Edi Rapo of East Hartford appeared in Rockville Superior Court on Friday to face a manslaughter charge in last year's death of 20-year-old Jafar Karzoun of Milford. Rapo's lawyer declined to disclose details of the plea offer, but said the case is expected to be resolved at the next court appearance on June 3. Authorities say Rapo, who was not a UConn student, punched Karzoun in the face in April 2010 at the Storrs campus during the Spring Weekend celebration. Police said Karzoun fell to the ground, hit his head and died a week later.
