Yanks winning border war for fans in Connecticut

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — The New York Yankees remain Connecticut's favorite Major League baseball team, topping the Boston Red Sox for the fourth straight year in Quinnipiac University's annual baseball poll.

The survey, which has an error margin of 2.2 percentage points, has the Bronx Bombers as the favorite of 43 percent of Connecticut fans, while 38 percent prefer the Sox. That's identical to last year's poll results.

But the Red Sox have the edge in older fans, with 46 to 34 percent of those over 65 rooting for the boys from Beantown.

As usual, the Yankees dominate the fan base in Fairfield County and southern Connecticut, while the Red Sox are favored in the north and east. The New York Mets came in a distant third, favored by 7 percent of Connecticut fans.
