UPDATED: Bysiewicz files papers to run in Democratic primary for U.S. Senate

Hartford — Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz has made it official and has filed her paperwork to run in the August Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate.

Bysiewicz filed the paperwork Tuesday in Hartford.

While three-term U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy easily won the Democratic Party’s endorsement during last weekend’s state convention, Bysiewicz still won 24 percent of the delegates. She only needed 15 percent for the right to appear on the Aug. 14 primary ballot.

Bysiewicz portrayed herself as the candidate who will stand up for the middle class, criticizing Murphy as an alleged friend of Wall Street. A spokeswoman for Murphy said Bysieiwicz is “known for running nasty misleading campaigns and it looks like this one will be no different.”

She said Murphy has fought for “our party’s values.”
