Hartford (AP) — A coalition of education organizations and municipalities is urging Connecticut legislators to restore state funding for school transportation expenses.

The coalition says the spending plan recently approved by General Assembly's Appropriations Committee cuts funding for public and non-public school transportation by nearly $28 million in each year of the proposed two-year budget.

Members of the coalition include organizations representing local school boards, cities and towns, Catholic schools, private schools and school bus companies.

The group is planning a news conference on Wednesday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Legislative leaders and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy have until June 5, the final day of the legislative session, to craft a compromise tax and spending plan.
