Photographer missing after losing bike in river

New Milford (AP) — A well-known commercial photographer is missing after telling his wife he was heading to the swollen Housatonic River to retrieve a lost bicycle.

The Waterbury Republican-American reports authorities have been using sonar to search for signs of 33-year-old Eric Langlois in the large section of the Housatonic known as Lake Lillinonah.

Police say Langois crashed a mountain bike into the river on Monday, but managed to swim to shore. He told his wife he was going back to the area in Lovers Leap State Park Tuesday to look for the bicycle, but never returned.

Police say a woman on Tuesday night reported seeing a man struggling in the river, which was swollen with heavy rains and churning just above the 14-mile lake section, which ends at Shepaug Dam.
