Hartford (AP) — A Hartford police dispatcher heard using a racial epithet in a radio transmission faces a disciplinary hearing.

The dispatcher, whose name has not been released, was placed on administrative leave by Mayor Pedro Segarra after the July 22nd incident.

The dispatcher, whose name has not been made public, was sending officers to a dispute over a trash can. In the recording he can be heard using the epithet, then quickly changing it to the word "neighbor."

Scot Esdaile, the president of the Connecticut NAACP, met with city officials on Wednesday and called on them to fire the dispatcher.

Segarra has said he has no tolerance for the use of the word in question.

Thursday's hearing is before Andrew Jaffee, Hartford's director of Emergency Services and Telecommunications.
