Fast-food workers to strike in Hartford

Fast food workers in the Hartford area plan to participate in a nationwide strike Thursday, calling for a $15-an-hour wage and the right to form a union without retaliation.

A 6 a.m. strike kickoff is planned at an undisclosed location, along with a rally at Hartford’s Old State House from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Thursday’s strike will span 50 cities across the United States, including Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Memphis, New York, Oakland, Raleigh and Tampa.

“We need to get the economy moving again, and that starts with low-wage service jobs,” said a release from Connecticut Working Families, an advocacy group organizing the event.

No strikes are planned in New London County, according to a spokeswoman for the organization.
