Malloy continues to warn residents of bitter cold

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday announced the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol will remain activated in anticipation of bitter cold temperatures expected to continue over the next few days.

While activated, the protocol directs numerous state agencies to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters “to ensure that the state’s most vulnerable people are protected from the severe cold weather,” according to a statement from Malloy’s office.

The state will continue to monitor capacity at shelters across the state while the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services has teams who specialize in working with homeless people to locate those who are at risk, spread the word about the 2-1-1 system, and encourage everyone to take advantage of the safety of shelters, the statement said.
