Cheshire home invasion convict unresponsive in cell
HARTFORD — Connecticut prison officials say an inmate sentenced to death for a 2007 home invasion has been found unresponsive in his cell.
A release from the state Department of Correction says that Steven Hayes is in stable condition.
Authorities say a guard conducting a routine check at the Northern Correction Institution found Hayes unresponsive at 9:35 Monday morning. Staff initiated measures to revive him and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Authorities say he was the only inmate in the cell at the time.
Hayes and an accomplice were sentenced to death for the attack in suburban Cheshire in which a woman and her two daughters were killed inside their home.
