Woman injured in collision with school bus in Westerly

WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — A woman has been hospitalized for treatment of injuries she sustained in an early morning crash in Westerly that involved a school bus carrying middle school students.

The Westerly Sun reports no children were injured when police say the woman rammed into the bus just before 7:45 a.m. Monday as it was preparing to stop to pick up a child along state Route 3.

The impact sparked a small fire in the front of the woman's vehicle. The flames were contained by bystanders before emergency responders arrived and extricated the woman.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was treated at the scene and later at Westerly Hospital. She's expected to recover.

A second bus picked up the students and took them to school.
