Law enforcement searches Nathan Carman's grandfather's house

Law enforcement authorities Tuesday searched the Windsor home of John Chakalos, the victim in an unsolved slaying exactly three years ago and father of a woman presumed dead after her boat sank during a fishing trip with her son.

The search of Chakalos' Overlook Drive home comes less than three weeks after the FBI and other agencies searched an abandoned New Hampshire property owned by the family.

Around noon, two of his daughters and a man emerged from the garage and drove off. Two Windsor police vehicles were parked at the end of the deadend street.

Nathan Carman was a suspect in his grandfather's Dec. 20, 2013 death. Windsor police sought an arrest warrant for murder, but a prosecutor returned it unsigned.

Nathan and his mother, Linda Carman, were reported missing Sept. 18 while on a fishing trip. They left from South Kingstown, R.I., the day before in Nathan Carman's 31-foot aluminum boat, the Chicken Pox.

Nathan Carman was found eight days later by a passing freighter off the coast of Martha's Vineyard floating in an emergency raft. Linda Carman, 54, is presumed dead. Federal, state and local authorities have been investigating.

Windsor detectives, along with the Chief State's Attorney's Cold Case Squad, have been investigating the shooting death of Chakalos.
