    Police identify 17-year-old boy killed in Waterbury shooting

    Police have identified a 17-year-old boy who was killed in a shooting on Bishop Street in Waterbury Tuesday night, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

    Police responded to Bishop Street before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. Responders found evidence of gunfire and a teen with multiple gunshot wounds, later identified as Wissin Resto-Rodriguez.

    Resto-Rodriguez was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital where he died from his injuries shortly after.

    Resto-Rodriguez was a Wilby High School student, according to Waterbury Public Schools.

    “The Waterbury Public School District is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our student who attended Wilby High School,” Belen Michelis, director of communications for Waterbury Public Schools, said.

    The district is working with a crisis team to provide grief counseling to students and staff who need it, Michelis said.
