Investigators working to ID dead man found in river in Cromwell

Cromwell — Authorities continue to work to determine the identity of a man found in the Connecticut River this week.

The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner has not made official conclusions as to the man's name or what caused his death, according to Capt. Frederick Sifodaskalakis. Medical examiners are running tests that could take a couple of weeks, he said.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, someone called Cromwell police to report something floating in the river that may be a body, police said. Police and firefighters headed to the river and recovered the body of a man.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Farmington, but the man's identity and precise cause of death could not be conclusively determined, Sifodaskalakis said.
