Rhode Island high school investigating possible fentanyl distribution

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Officials at a Rhode Island high school say they're investigating the possible distribution of powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl at the school.

WPRI-TV reports that Toll Gate High School Principal Candace Caluori said in an email to parents on Thursday and in a follow-up email sent Friday that a student may have been distributing fentanyl in the boy's bathroom on Sept. 22.

Caluori says in the statement that officials are "actively investigating the situation."

She says police K-9s searched the Warwick building for drugs on Thursday. Officials say they have not yet verified whether fentanyl was being distributed at the school.
