SHELTON, Conn. — Two prominent volunteer firefighters have been charged with arson in connection with a blaze outside of their firehouse in Connecticut.

Police say surveillance video captured 45-year-old Gregory Bomba, a former fire captain, and 57-year-old William Tortora, the brother of a fire marshal, setting boxes on fire in the bed of a pickup truck outside the Echo Hose Company firehouse in Shelton in February.

As the flames began to grow, police say Tortora got into the truck and drove away until the burning boxes flew off.

Tortora was arrested Friday, and Bomba turned himself in to police Monday.

Both men are facing charges of arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

Fire officials have declined to comment.
