2 arrested after shooting leads to SWAT team response

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Two people have been charged in connection with a shooting that led to a SWAT team response in Massachusetts, police said.

Worcester police responding to a 911 call went to a city home at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday where they encountered a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital.

The suspect, who had called 911, was still in the house with a woman, police said in a statement.

Officers set up a perimeter and a SWAT team and hostage negotiation team were called in.

Police persuaded the suspect to let the woman go. The suspect, identified as Andrew Abilhomme, 21, then left the home and was charged with several offenses including attempted murder and unlicensed possession of a gun.

Another man who was also in the home and allegedly threatened police, was also charged.

It could not immediately be determined if Abilhomme had an attorney.
