Man shot, killed in Providence while making a music video

PROVIDENCE (AP) — A man recording a music video on a Providence street was shot and killed, police said Friday.

The victim, shot at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, and identified by police as Dante Mann, 27, was the city's 15th homicide victim of the year.

Officers responding to reports of a shooting found that Mann had already been taken to the hospital by friends, where he was pronounced dead.

Mann and several other people were making a music video when a car drove by, a shooter came out and fired several shots at the group, Police Maj. David Lapatin said. It appears members of Mann's group shot back, he said. It's unclear if Mann was the intended target.

An hour or two prior to the shooting, there was a fight in the same general area, but police are still investigating whether they are linked.

Mann’s family told WPRI-TV he was a rapper who went by the name SOS DMann, and was filming a music video in memory of a cousin who was shot and killed in July 2018 on the same street.

    No one has been arrested.
