South Windsor officer dies of injuries from motorcycle crash

A South Windsor police officer has died as a result of a motorcycle crash last month.

Officer Ben Lovett died Tuesday morning, according to social media posts by Wethersfield police. He was injured in a crash in Tolland in late June; the driver who caused the collision was impaired, they said.

“The Wethersfield Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family of Officer Ben Lovett and the men and women of the South Windsor Police Department,” the department wrote in Facebook and Instagram posts. “As fellow police officers we grieve for Ben and are frustrated because this tragedy was entirely preventable. There is no excuse for drunk/drugged driving. This senseless act ruined the lives of countless people and took the life of a beloved son, brother, and police officer.

Lovett, from Vernon, was hired in April 2018 and graduated from the police academy the following September.
