    Following major win, UConn suffers letdown against Villanova

    Hartford – Coming off its biggest win of the season, UConn suffered a major letdown on Saturday afternoon.

    The Huskies couldn’t build off Wednesday’s upset of No. 6 Syracuse, losing to Villanova, 70-61, before 15,165 fans at the XL Center.

    The defeat dropped the Huskies to 17-7 overall, 7-5 in the Big East Conference.

    Rebounding was a major issue for UConn, which lost the battle of the boards by a whopping 41-25 margin. The Wildcats (16-10, 7-6) had 20 offensive rebounds.

    Freshman Omar Calhoun led UConn with 16 points and sophomore DeAndre Daniels added 13 points and a team-high six rebounds.

    The high scoring guard duo of Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright combined for just six points on 3-for-15 shooting.

    UConn led 33-30 at halftime before Villanova took control, going on a 13-0 run. Tony Chennault’s fast-break basket put the Wildcats up for good, 46-45, with 12:08 remaining.

    Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono had a game-high 25 points and senior Mouphtaou Yarou had 11 points and 16 rebounds for Villanova.
