Coach Kevin Ollie regularly refers to Daniel Hamilton as UConn's best player.

The other American Athletic Conference coaches apparently agree, as they selected Hamilton to the all-conference second team.

Hamilton, a versatile sophomore swingman, leads the Huskies in rebounding (8.7) and assists (4.8) while also scoring 11.6 points per game.

Forward Shonn Miller also represented UConn on the all-conference team, earning honorable mention honors. A graduate student, he's been the team's most consistent player, averaging a team-high tying 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in his first and only season in Storrs.

The All-AAC first team is comprised of Cincinnati's Troy Caupain, SMU's Nic Moore, Temple's Quenton DeCosey, Tulsa's James Woodard and Shaq Goodwin of Memphis. Moore, the favorite to win the league's player of the year and a three-time first team pick, and DeCosey were unanimous picks.

Houston's Devonta Pollard, Tulsa's Shaquille Harrison, Cincinnati's Gary Clark and Dedric Lawson of Memphis join Hamilton on the second team.

UConn's postseason awards haul wasn't as big as projected prior to the season.

Hamilton was a preseason first team pick while Amida Brimah and Sterling Gibbs were on the second team.

Jalen Adams, who was named the preseason rookie of the year, didn't make the five player All-AAC rookie team. East Carolina's Kentrell Barkley, USF's Jahmal McMurray, SMU's Shake Milton, Houston's Galen Robinson, Jr. and Lawson were chosen.

The AAC will announce its defensive player of the year, sixth man, most improved player and sportsmanship award winners Wednesday. Awards for top player, coach, rookie and scholar athlete will be handed out on Thursday, the first day of the AAC tournament at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

UConn (21-10), the fifth seed, opens conference tournament play at 2 p.m. Friday, facing No. 4 Cincinnati (22-9) in the quarterfinals. It marks the third straight year that the two teams have met in AAC tourney play, with UConn winning the previous battles, 57-54 last season in Hartford and 58-56 in 2014 in Memphis.

In other award news, Hamilton was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District I team. Providence's Kris Dunn of New London was the District I player of the year.
