Ex-UConn players Samuelson, Stevens trade places in WNBA deal

Chicago — A pair of ex-UConn teammates were part of a WNBA deal between the Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings on Friday.

The Sky announced they have acquired forward Azura Stevens from the Dallas in exchange for guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson and a 2021 first-round draft pick.

Samuelson was Chicago's top pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft (No. 4 overall), but saw limited action, averaging 2.4 points in 20 games and playing just 7.6 minutes per game. Stevens, who spent her first two seasons with the Wings, averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in nine games last season.

"We want to thank Katie Lou for her contributions to our team in Chicago, both on and off the court," Chicago head coach and general manager James Wade said in a release. "We believe she will be a great player in this league and feel that this will give her the opportunity and playing time she deserves.

"We are very excited to welcome Azura to the Sky. With her size and skill set, she fills a hole that we are currently lack and need to reach the next level."
