Mohegan — UConn's foray into the Big East Conference next season may lead to a new venue for the Big East Women's Basketball Tournament: Mohegan Sun Arena.

Amber Cox, the Vice President of the Connecticut Sun and New England Black Wolves, said Sunday that Mohegan is interested in the event.

"We have inquired about the tourney coming to Mohegan and submitted a first draft proposal," Cox said. "They have told us they won't evaluate anything formally until they get through this year's tourney at Wintrust (Arena in Chicago)."

This is the final season of the agreement between the Big East and Wintrust Arena.

Cox, too, has ties to the Big East, working as the former assistant commissioner for women's basketball under current league commissioner Val Ackerman.

The American Athletic Conference will play its conference tournament at Mohegan Sun from March 6-9.

UConn is in its final season in the American.

Mohegan Sun Arena is home to several basketball tournaments already, including the two-day Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic in November, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys' and girls' championships and the Eastern Connecticut Conference boys' and girls' championships.

The ECC's Div. I and II girls' finals are Tuesday night at the arena.
