COVID issues force UConn women to postpone third straight game

The UConn women's basketball program had its third straight game postponed when the Big East announced the No. 11 Huskies' next game at Georgetown on Wednesday, Jan. 5, is now off due to continuing COVID-19 issues within the UConn program.

UConn (6-3), which had two previous games called off — Dec. 29 against Marquette at the XL Center in Hartford and Friday afternoon at DePaul in Chicago — are scheduled to play on Friday, Jan. 7 against Villanova in Philadelphia at 7 p.m.

The Huskies' next home game is Sunday, Jan. 9 against Creighton at Gampel Pavilion.

The UConn men are also dealing with COVID-19 issues. The Huskies (10-3) have had two straight games postponed — Dec. 28 against Xavier in Cincinnati and New Year's Day against Butler in Hartford. Coach Dan Hurley confirmed Thursday that at least nine players showed some symptoms of the virus, and he was isolating at home after testing positive.

The Huskies are scheduled to play again on Saturday, Jan. 8, against Seton Hall in Newark, N.J.

The Big East is working with all schools involved to reschedule the games.

UConn said Friday that fans who had purchased tickets for the Georgetown will be issued a full refund to the credit card on file for the ticket purchase within the next five business days, adding, should the game be rescheduled, those fans will have priority access to tickets for the rescheduled date.
