CAC Age Group Swimmers Rock in Dover

CAC families enjoyed a fabulous weekend as they watched our 9 attending age group swimmers strut their stuff placing in the top 5 places 32 times.

26 CAC Swimmers headed north to complete at the Jenny Thompson Invitational Swim Meet hosted by Seacoast Swimming Association in Dover, NH on July 15 - 17, 2011. The meet was held at the Jenny Thompson Competition Pool, an outdoor, 50 meter facility. Twenty two teams from all over New England attended.

The event of the weekend was CAC 8-U swimmers Emma McCall and Abby Vetrovec swimming to a spectacular 1st place tie in the Girls 8-Under 100 Back. Griswold's Emma McCall (8) and North Stonington's Abby Vetrovec (8) brought the fans to their feet with a tie for 1st place in the 8-U Girls 100 Back both finishing with a 1:41.43.

Emma also placed 1st in the 50 Fly (49.01) and the 50 Back (46.64). McCall also placed 2nd in three events; 50 free (42.06), 100 Free (1:34.22) and 100 Fly (2:08.93).

Abby Vetrovec also placed 3rd in two events; the 50 back (55.88) and the 100 Fly (2:09.68). Abby placed 4th in 3 events; 50 free (43.03), 50 fly (55.11) and the 50 Breast (58.29). Vetrovec also finished 5th in the 100 free (1:36.64).

Ledyard's Jordan Legg (12), led CAC's Age Group Squad in the medal charge. In the Boys 11-12 Division, Legg had 4 1st place finishes; 50 Free (29.77), 100 Free (1:04.88), 50 Fly (34.71), and 200 Free (2:23.46). Jordan also had four 2nd place finishes; 200 Back (2:43.89), 100 Fly (1:20.5), 100 Back (36.91).

Griswold's Gracie McCall (10), placed well in the Girls 9-10 Division. Gracie placed 1st in the 100 free (1:17.02). She was 2nd in two events; 50 Free (35.72) and 200 Free (2:49.63). Gracie was 3rd in the 50 back (42.30), 4th in the 100 Back (1:30.14) and 5th in the 200 IM.

Pawcatuck's Wes Rea (10), placed well in the Boy's 9-10 Division. Wes placed 1st in the 200 Free (2:52;75). Wes also placed 3rd in two events; 50 Free (35.67) and 200 IM (3:29.18). Wes was 4th in the 100 Free (1:20.00), 6th in two events; 100 back (1:34.33) and 50 back (45.92) and 10th in the 50 breast (56.00).

Also dazzling at Dover were fine swims by Westerly’s Joe Sullivan, East Lyme’s Michelle Sarcovan, East Lyme’s Alexis Dumais, and Waterford’s Zora LaBonte.

Westerly's Joe Sullivan (10) had a first class showing in all his races in Dover. On the Boys 9-10 Division, Joe placed 6th in the 200 free, 8th in the 100 breast, 9th in the 50 breast, and 10th in the 100 free. Joe's strong finish in the 200 free shows the characteristic stamina of CAC swimmers and also real improvements in technique.

East Lyme's Michelle Sarcovan (12) is finishing her first full year with CAC. She joined CAC because she really wanted to get serious about her swimming. As a hard worker, she swims with CAC's senior swimmers. Her concentration on form and her work ethic in the pool has really paid off. Demonstrating excellent form and stamina, she finished 8th in the Girls 11-12 Division, 200 breast, 10th in the 50 breast, and 10th in the 200 free.

East Lyme's Alexis Dumais (12) returned to CAC this year. She quickly picked up where she left off becoming one of CAC's hard charging, competitive Age Group swimmers. CAC's focus on quality and Alexis's dedication to swimming right really showed in the 11-12 Girls Division this year. In Dover's extremely competitive field, she placed 11th in the 100 back, 13th in the 100 free and 200 IM, and 15th in the 200 free and 50 back.

Waterford's Zora LaBonte (11) is new this summer to the CAC squad. CAC's concentration on form and quality promise to pay big dividends for Zora, who enjoys a swimmer's gift. Zora is very tall and when it comes together for her, watch out. At Dover, she had strong finishes in the 50 breast, 50 back and 200 free

CAC is the southeastern Connecticut’s premier US Swim Team. Age Group Swimmers participate in a program that produces results through developing technique and helping building stamina.
