Mekhi Conner, courting Division I college basketball offers, could have taken the path of many high school seniors now, choosing prep school. Instead, he decided to stay at Notre Dame of West Haven for his senior year.

One of his reasons: to avenge the loss the Green Knights suffered to East Catholic in the 2022 CIAC Div. I state championship game. He’ll get that chance Dec. 19 at Mohegan Sun Arena as part of The Day Holiday Classic.

Conner sat down with GameDay last week and talked about his experiences, including how he’d rather have lost last season’s title game by 20 points, rather than by one.

The second Day Holiday Classic will feature East Catholic vs. Notre Dame at 4 p.m, followed by St. Bernard and Hand at 6 p.m. in a rematch of the 2022 Div. III semifinal. New London renews its rivalry with Norwich Free Academy at 8.
